EQUITY WITH RESPECT TO ALL TAX EXEMPTIONS FOR ALL PRACTITIONERS OF PSYCHOTHERAPY

In 2017 four Canadian Provinces sought to exempt HST in a letter to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance as part of the Pre-budget Consultations for the 2018 Budget. Those involved included:

  • Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association,
  • Association des Psychotherapeutes du Quebec,
  • College of Liscensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick,
  • Association of Registered Psychotherapists and Mental Health Professionals, and Ontario Association for Marriage and Family Therapy

DISREGARDED PETITION FOR HST EXEMPTION

In 2018 there was a petition for the removal of HST. The Petition stated:

We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to remove the HST on psychotherapy as a piece of the overall effort to make mental health care as accessible as possible to the citizens of Canada. Please read the government response in the PDF below.

LETTERS TO BILL MORNEAU: FINANCE MINISTER

In both 2018 and 2019, the Ontario Association for Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists, and Psychotherapists wrote a letter asking Finance Minister, Bill Morneau, to stop unjust tax on Psychotherapy services. We are hopeful that with the new Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland, letters like this will be heeded.
